GERMAN PRAYERBOOK WITH AUGSBURG SILVER MOUNTS AND CLASPS A.D. 1796
Richly decorated prayerbook in German. Title: ‘Gebete und Handlungen für den öffentlichen godsdienstlichen Gebrauch der Evangelischen Gemeinden der freyen Reichsstadt Augsburg. Augsburg A.D. 1794’. Editor: Julius Wilhelm Hamm the younger. The book consist of two parts in 176 pages. First part: ‘Gebete für den offentlichen Gottesdienst’. Part two : ‘ Tauf-, Abendmals- und Copulationshandlungen’. Printed in a gothic type. Several notitions in black ink. Remarkable is that the word ‘Kaiser’ in the prayers is crossed out and replaced by ‘König’ .

The binding is in black leather with very beautiful silver mounts made in Augsburg. On the front in the middle a scene of the crucifixion of Christ with St Mary and St John near the cross. On the backside a depiction of the Ressurection of Christ. Al sides with large silver strips with sawing of floral patterns. In the corners with elaborate cornerpieces. The silver is marked with the town mark of Augsburg (a bunch of grapes) and with an indistinct makers mark ( B .. ?)

CONDITION: Silver and paper in good quality, some stains in the corners due to intensive use. The back of the binding is replaced. Endpapers renewed.
